The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Center for Clouds and Climate Change Research (CCCCR), Cotton University, the Assam Climate Change Management Society, and Mahabahu Climate Forum at the MCB auditorium. Students and faculty from Cotton University and Tata Institute of Social Science participated in the workshop.
The proceedings began with an introduction by Dr. Akunthita Barthakur. CCCCR Head Prof. Dr. Rahul Mahanta delivered the keynote speech to formally open the workshop, focusing on the urgent need for climate resilience and the university initiatives for climate awareness and action.
Rituraj Phukan spoke about the local and global perspectives of climate justice and the need to take ownership and highlighted grassroots leadership opportunities for the participants.
The keynote address by Dr. Soumitra Das on the climate crisis and its current solutions presented the latest scientific evidence and consequent cascading impacts across the globe. The second part of his presentation focused on the inadequacy of current responses to address the crisis of warming and runaway climate change. He presented the alternative pathways being researched, including solutions based on Sunlght Reflection Methods (SRM). He called for the urgent need for more research in the SRM like Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (SAI), Marine Cloud Brightening (MCB) and targeted albedo enhancement technologies.
