Climate Leadership Workshops

& Webinar Series

Raising Awareness. Building Legitimacy. Driving Urgency.

In 2025, HCI took a decisive step toward mainstreaming climate interventions by investing in what matters most—people. Across India, we built a network of informed, action-oriented leaders equipped to understand the crisis and drive solutions where they are needed most. In partnership with academic institutions and civil society organizations, HCI delivered seven high-impact workshops, convening students, researchers, policymakers, and grassroots leaders. These were not just educational sessions—they were platforms for transformation, where climate science was translated into urgency, ownership, and action.

Each workshop followed a proven, high-impact model:

  • Inaugural Keynotes from institutional leaders and policymakers to align discussions with regional and national priorities.
  • Presentations by Local Scientists providing participants with grounded, evidence-based understanding of climate risks in their own communities.
  • HCI Core Sessions covering three essential themes:
    • Understanding the Climate Crisis & Current Solutions
    • The Case for Climate Interventions: Science & Urgency
    • Innovative Cooling Solutions and Cryosphere Protection
  • Interactive group activities driving practical problem-solving and actionable outcomes
  • Targeted networking to build connections across youth leaders, academia, policymakers, and civil society

To extend this momentum beyond physical convenings, HCI hosted ~20 webinars, significantly expanding reach and enabling continuous engagement. These sessions connected global experts with emerging leaders, showcased cutting-edge innovations, and reinforced a growing ecosystem committed to advancing climate solutions. Critically, HCI moved beyond one-time engagement to long-term impact by establishing three local HCI Chapters.

These chapters serve as enduring hubs to:

  • Sustain climate awareness and community engagement
  • Build a pipeline of innovators ready to lead future climate initiatives and field trials
  • Support informed policy dialogue and responsible advocacy for climate interventions

Each chapter ensures that the impact of our workshops does not end when the event concludes—but instead multiplies within communities, institutions, and policy circles over time.

Outcome: A scalable and self-sustaining leadership ecosystem—turning awareness into action, and action into lasting climate impact.

Climate Intervention Summit and Conferences

In 2025, Healthy Climate Initiative (HCI), in collaboration with Healthy Planet Action Coalition, successfully hosted three high-impact events during DC Climate Week and NYC Climate Week under the theme: “Restoring a Healthy Climate: Nature-Inspired Interventions to Cool the Planet and Rekindle Hope.”

During DC Climate Week (April 30 & May 2), two sessions in Washington, DC brought together approximately 60 participants, including a national climate journalist and a Climate Counselor from the Australian Embassy. Moderated by Herb Simmens, the panels featured Soumitra Das and Michael MacCracken. Notably, about half the attendees shifted their views from neutral to supportive of climate interventions following the discussions.

At NYC Climate Week, HCI convened a distinguished panel exploring the urgency of the climate crisis and the promise of nature-inspired cooling interventions such as cloud brightening, albedo enhancement, and ecosystem restoration. The session emphasized the “Climate Triad” approach—cooling interventions, emissions reduction, and carbon removal—as a pathway to stabilizing global temperatures.

Across all events, HCI advanced awareness, fostered dialogue, and built momentum for responsible climate intervention research and deployment

Global Engagement – SRM Forum in Cape Town 2025

In May 2025, Soumitra Das represented the Healthy Climate Initiative at the Degrees Global Forum 2025 in Cape Town, organized by Degrees Initiative. The forum, the largest gathering on solar radiation modification (SRM) to date, convened global researchers, policymakers, and civil society leaders.

Key insights included the growing urgency of targeted climate interventions and the expanding scope of SRM beyond stratospheric aerosol injection. Discussions emphasized the need for continued research in both stratospheric aerosol injection and marine cloud brightening, while also revealing a critical gap: the limited focus on localized, near-term cooling solutions for vulnerable communities in the Global South. These learnings will inform HCI’s upcoming conference in India, advancing integrated near-, mid-, and long-term climate strategies.
